Maintenance Is a Position

Most breakdowns appear sudden only from a distance.

Up close, they usually send small warnings: the dirty windshield, the neglected update, the position that became uncomfortable before it became dangerous.

Maintenance is easy to postpone because nothing dramatic happens when you miss it once. The system keeps running. The car starts. The account survives the day. That temporary success becomes permission to delay it again.

Risk works the same way. A weak process can produce a good result. That does not make the process stronger.

I am learning to respect the boring signals: clean the glass, check the assumption, reduce what no longer fits, fix the small problem while it is still small.

Maintenance is not time taken away from progress.

It is the position that keeps progress available.
