On the Move

Rooms full of consensus

Talking with two other guests at a rooftop gathering after dark, city lights behind.

Rooftop, decent lighting, and by the third conversation I had heard the same thesis four times with different adjectives.

That is not a criticism of the room. Rooms select for agreement; that is what makes them pleasant. But when the tenth person describes the same asymmetry, the asymmetry has a queue. The information is not the thesis. The information is how many people arrived carrying it.

I have stopped treating events as research and started treating them as a sentiment reading I did not have to pay for. Same evening, different use. It also makes the small talk easier, because I am no longer trying to win anything.

Left early. Wrote two lines in the notes app on the way down. Both were about positioning, neither was about the coin.
