Water What Compounds

The basil does not care whether the week was busy.
Ignore it long enough and the leaves tell the truth. No narrative, no thread, no complicated explanation. The system needed water and did not receive it.
Most useful things behave this way. Health, relationships, research, and judgment rarely collapse because of one dramatic event. They weaken through small missed maintenance that looked harmless in isolation.
Compounding gets discussed as if it belongs exclusively to capital. It applies just as well to attention.
What you water becomes easier to return to. What you neglect becomes another urgent repair.
I am trying to build fewer systems that depend on heroic effort and more that survive ordinary weeks. A notebook before the timeline. A run before the excuses. A message answered while it still feels small.
Maintenance is not glamorous. That is part of its advantage.
