Run the Position, Not Yourself

The Trenchlyfe author tying a running shoe on a weathered park bench after an evening run.

The first ten minutes of a run are mostly negotiation.

Your legs are busy. Your mind is still at the desk, replaying the position you opened, the message you did not answer, and the chart that moved half a percent after you left.

Then the body takes over. Breathing becomes the only useful metric. The city narrows to the next turn and the next patch of shade.

I do not run to become more productive. That would turn one of the few honest hours of the day into another optimization project. I run because distance corrects scale.

A move that felt enormous on the screen becomes one event in one session. A difficult decision becomes a question that can wait until oxygen returns to the brain.

Discipline is not the ability to remain online indefinitely. It is the ability to leave, recover, and return without losing the thread.

Run the position. Do not let the position run you.
